Who would you say most influences you in art?
Do you have a favourite artist from the past?
Rembrandt.. his dark backgrounds and to achieve the realism through paint is incredible.
Roughly how long have you painted portraits?
3 years on portraits
What other types of painting do you like to paint?
i like paintings that evoke thought, meaning, contemplation, etc..
would you say then that emotion and character play more of a role in your art than realism?
yes.. i would agree with that.. I wish i painted less real my architecture training has taught me to follow my eye movement.. I use that a lot in my paintings.. It simplifies the painting and focuses on the eye movement
do you practice painting looser and if so do you find it is hard to break away from realism?
my architecture training has taught me to follow my eye movement.. I use that a lot in my paintings.. It simplifies the painting and focuses on the eye movement and yes I try to paint simpler.
Which two colours would you choose to paint if you had to choose?
red and blue.. I like high contrast paintings and I think I can get the most from the those colors and the mixing of them.. Yellow can just be the white paper. Too much green in the world and I dont like to paint landscapes, so i wont miss that color
older males.. lots of character in the face and Im not very good at smooth blending of skin tones.
picture reference: This painting was a study in a few things. I wanted to capture the energy from the hand thru the face to the body..
